Where to find the subway in the game fallout 4. Quest # 2: "Undercover work"

Fallout 4 - Freedom Path: Complete Quest Pass, Freedom Trail Ring Password and All About the Mission | This quest is required to complete the second (or third?) From the end of the Fallout 4 storyline quest. It's about the Molecular Level quest. You will not be able to complete the Molecular Level without completing the "Path to Freedom" quest. The quest can be completed even earlier when you complete the Valentine's Day mission. In general, based on this quest, you will visit several memorable places in Boston. There will be a red line on the path known as the Freedom Trail to guide you through these places. Examine the fountain that reads: "At the end of the path, follow the beacon of Freedom."

Where to follow?

Note the circular mark on the ground and the thin brick red carpet extending away from it. The red bricks will guide you through the memorials and ultimately lead you to your destination. On some sections of the path, you will run into small problems, as rubble and other building materials will hide the path from you. Each time the path ends, you will have to find its continuation. So, you need to visit the historic buildings of the 18th century (and one cemetery) nearby.

If you have compiled the route correctly, then visit the historical places in this order:

  • Headquarters Massachusetts;
  • Granary Beraing Ground;
  • Old Capitol;
  • Old Corner Bookstore;
  • Fanel Hall;
  • Paul Revere House;
  • Old North Church.
Each historical site has a mark on the ground. If you miss any mark and hint (which is quite likely), then going back, in principle, is not necessary. Just keep heading towards Old North Church. There will be several mutants near her at once, which must be killed. When you go inside the church, then deal with the ghouls, and then go to the doors in the opposite part of the church. Behind them are the catacombs, where you need to get. Remember that you can use the pip-boy to determine the route.

Follow the glowing marker on the ground until you reach a metal disc in the wall that says "Ring of the Freedom Trail." You can rotate this disc in different directions. You need to enter a password, which is rAILROAD word... Each time you hover over a letter, you must press the center button to enter it. The letters must be aligned with the mark at the top, at 12 noon. As soon as the last letter D is entered, the door will open.

The Underground faction is wary of strangers, especially those who have found their refuge. You can earn their trust by choosing the right answers. By this meeting, the quest "Path to Freedom" will be completed.

The Subway in Fallout 4 is a faction dedicated to finding and rescuing runaway synths. She is ideologically opposed to the Institute and the Brotherhood of Steel. She appeared in previous games in the series. But now finding her is not so easy. To find out where the Subway is in Fallout 4, you can't do without hints or a strong investment of time.

Where is the "Subway" in Fallout 4

There are several options for how to find the "Subway". The first way is to get the "Road to Freedom" quest. It can be accidentally picked up by walking in Diamond City next to gossiping citizens. They are located by a detective agency near the Commonwealth Armory. We must listen to the dialogue of these citizens and wait until one of them says the phrase "Follow the path of freedom." The second way is the storyline "Molecular level", they are similar.

If someone is not interested in going the full path, but immediately get the result, then you can safely skip the next three paragraphs and immediately complete the quest to find the "Subway" in Fallout 4.

The "path of freedom" is marked with a red line on the ground. Its beginning lies near the Railway Station, not far from the fountain with a sign. You need to find this line and walk along it to the end of the path. You need to walk along it without turning anywhere. The line will periodically hide under the rubble and mountains of debris, so you have to look.

Freedom signs

The path is interspersed with round signs. There will be eight such signs in total. It is imperative to approach each of them. For those who find it difficult to walk along the constantly broken line, we publish the location of the signs of freedom:

  1. Boston Common.
  2. State Capitol.
  3. Grenary Cemetery.
  4. Old Capitol.
  5. Book "Old Corner".
  6. Fanel Hall.
  7. Pearl Revere's home.
  8. The old church.

Each of them must be examined and what the Survivor says is written down. These numbers and letters will come in handy at the end of the quest.

The end of the path and finding the "Subway"

The path will eventually lead to the location "Old North Church". Here you need to find the entrance to the basement and find the wheel on the wall - the same as the signs on the "Path of Freedom", but larger. Careful, there are some dangerous wild ghouls in the basement. They can seriously injure an untrained Survivor.

It is necessary to consistently click on the password for the "Subway" using the letters found on the road. Just put them in the correct order.

And now the answer! As a result, you need to spin the wheel on the wall in the basement of the Old Church so that you get the password "Railroad". In this case, the second letter must be from the word "Freedom", and the first - from the word "Trail".

For those whose textures are Russified: take a close look at the circle - under the Russian letters, small, small Latin ones have been preserved. You will have to enter the code "Subway" on them.

After the code has been entered, a passage will open to the left of the wheel. Congratulations, the Subway has been successfully found!

Available tasks of the "Underground" faction in Fallout 4

After opening the door, you need to enter the opened corridor. It is dark and it seems as if no one is there. But this is not the case. After a few steps, the Survivor will be greeted by the inhabitants of the local bunker in the amount of four people. They will not be friendly, but no one will open fire on the visitor.

In the process of dialogue, you can find out some useful information about the "Underground" and get a quest. If you came to the story quest "Molecular Level", then in parallel with it, the "Road to Freedom" will be counted.

All main quests for the "Underground" in Fallout 4 without any special spoilers:

  1. "Undercover work"... An assignment aimed at gaining trust. We'll have to infiltrate the old base of the organization and pick up one necessary item. Completing it unlocks the Deacon as a partner.
  2. "Night Boston"... It will be necessary to rescue the fugitive synth from Bunker Hill.
  3. "Operation Ticonderoga"... We'll have to get to the station and find out what happened there. Because Ticonderoga stopped communicating with the organization. Careful, you will face a tough battle with a dangerous enemy.
  4. "Underground and undercover"... You need to find your man in one of the hostile factions and contact him. Will open only after completing the "Molecular Level".
  5. "On the brink of war"... A quest to protect the "Underground" from a hostile faction that decided to go on the attack. You will have to try hard to survive and not give the base offense. You will have to confront a serious opponent.
  6. "Red flare of missiles"... Destruction of the enemy base under cover.
  7. "Critical mass"... The last dash for the Subway. Aimed at the final destruction of all rivals.

As you can see, there are only eight tasks for the "Subway" in Fallout 4, if you count the quest to find the base. But missions of other factions are also associated with it, including story missions (for example, "Molecular Level"). There are also side quests that can give a nice boost to experience in Fallout 4:

  1. Jackpot... Extraction of supplies and weapons for the organization. We'll have to get to the secret warehouses of the US Army and gain access to local caches. Unlocks a clothing modification and new armor.
  2. "Death toll"... You will need to inspect the cache at one of the organization's stations and find out what happened.
  3. "Kill List 2"... Continuation of the previous assignment. In this quest, you will have to find another cache. And then - one of the agents of the organization in order to obtain the necessary information from him.
  4. "Mercer Station"... The task is to organize a new station to help fugitive synths and a distribution center for a more successful escape organization.
  5. Randolph Station... We'll have to find holodisks with tasks (six in total) and complete them. The essence of all missions is to destroy enemy forces at specially marked points.
  6. "Interrupted Memory"... It is necessary to clear one of the staging points for sending synths in Fallout 4 to a new life from the enemies who occupied it - first generation androids.
  7. "By mattresses"... This is a whole series of Fallout 4 tasks for the "Underground", which becomes available towards the end of the game. It is necessary to clear certain locations from the new gang.
  8. "Vane"... We'll have to install sensors at the highest points of the Commonwealth.
  9. "Height"... It will be necessary to destroy one of the Brotherhood of Steel's rotorcraft in some way.
  • As a result of a conversation with Dr. Amari at the beginning of the story quest "Molecular Level", when she suggests you contact the "Underground" for help in decoding the hunter's chip.
  • Or you just heard rumors in the Diamond City Market or the Bench Bar, or maybe from the guards in Neighborhood.
  • Go further along the Path of freedom

One way or another, to start searching for the "Subway" you need to come to Boston Common Park, next to which the Park Street station is located and in which the Swan Pond (by the way, it is better to stay away from it for the time being, as to kill this a mutant swan is far from easy). There, near the fountain in the distant pre-war years, a tourist excursion "The Way of Freedom" began, which led tourists along the red path passing through the streets of Boston. You can learn more about the story from the robot guide next to you. Now there is a sign with the inscription "At the end of the path, follow the lantern of freedom", a sign of the Path of freedom with the code "A7" and a red narrow path from it, as a sign of where to move on.

Follow the red trail around the perimeter of Boston Common. You will stumble upon the Massachusetts State Capitol and next to it you will find the next sign with the code "L4".

Expect confrontations with wild mongrels, ghouls, super mutants and raiders on the way to the next sign with the code "I3" near the Old Corner bookstore. Yes, and no one said that it would be easy to find the Subway.

We go further along the red carpet to Fanel Hall. Here you will have to face wild ghouls, super mutants and mutant hounds. Be especially careful with kamikaze super mutants - shoot at the hand in which they are holding the bomb, or simply run away from them so as not to be blown to pieces.

And the path continues and leads us to the house of Paul River, or rather to what is left of him, and to the next sign of the Path of Freedom with the code "D8". Beware of super mutants and mutant hounds here.

The trail ends at the Old North Church with an "R1" sign. Note the picture of a lantern on the wall of the church. Remember that inscription - "At the end of the path, follow the lantern of freedom." It seems we have come to the right place.

It should be noted that, in principle, it is not necessary to follow the red path and find all the signs with the code. You can go straight to the Old North Church if you know where to look for it. The main thing is the code word, which is written below. And then you can follow the instructions below. But, in my opinion, it is much more interesting to follow the secret path and solve the riddle.

    Find "Subway"

Enter the church. It is teeming with wild ghouls, in fact, like its catacombs, and this is where we need it. As you enter, turn right - you see again a white lantern - there is a door leading to the catacombs under the collapsed part of the church balcony.

Follow them, killing ghouls along the way, until you come across the Freedom Path Ring, similar to the ones you saw on the way to the Old North Church, and a drawing of a white lantern on the floor.

Now comes the fun part. Remember all the codes that we found along the way? We put the numbers in order and get the encrypted word "RAILROAD" (the original name is "Subway"). It is something that needs to be introduced using this ring. How to do it? Turn the ring clockwise or counterclockwise, pointing the red arrow at the required letter, and then after each letter press the button. If you did everything correctly, then the wall will drive off and, voila, the secret organization "Underground" is found.

    Talk to Desdemona

Desdemona is in charge of the Subway. Answer her questions as you wish.

    Charisma

If you want to know more information, then to the question "Who are you?" ask her better "Who are they?" (persuasion level - easy).

So, after talking a little and agreeing to help her, you can start quests from the "Subway" and get to know this organization better.

    hint

In the room where Desdemona will lead you on one of the desks, another magazine "Terrific Cool Stories" Issue 9. It opens you a new magazine perk, with which the damage from the cryolator is 5% higher. All magazine perks can be viewed.

And if you leave through the secret passage of the Subway headquarters (go through the rift on the opposite side of where you came from), then hack the terminal at the exit (level - difficult) and use it to open the door to the closed part of the room where you can take a nuclear block for power armor.

The door leading outward is also opened with the help of a terminal, but another (the one near the door) that does not require breaking. For one, going out through the tunnel, you will remove the chain from the front door - now, if necessary, it will be easier to get to the headquarters of the "Underground".

    Locations for research:

    • North End
    • Lexington
    • Switch

    Talk to Deacon

Desdemona, the leader of the Underground, doesn't trust you yet. So this assignment is a kind of test. If everything goes well, then you can continue to cooperate with the Underground, for example, they can help build a signal interceptor for the "Molecular Level" story quest.

The deacon is that mysterious person who vouched for you in front of Desdemona when you first found the Underground in the "Road to Freedom" quest. He believes that the Subway needs you, and wants you to prove yourself in this task and show everyone what you are worth.

    Charisma

You can try to ask the Deacon why he vouched for you (persuasion level - easy, medium, difficult).

Meet the Deacon on the old highway

The deacon offers to meet in Lexington on the old highway. There he will tell you the essence of the task.

When you get to the place, then know that that strange dude with a hat and dark glasses is the Deacon. As it turns out, he's just obsessed with disguise. Do not judge him harshly, everyone has their own radroaches in their heads.

But let's move on to the task. Before the Old North Church, the Subway base was located under the Joe Slokum Cafe, but the Institute discovered them. Your task is to pick up something you need from the base. What it is, you will only know when you get to the former base.

Follow the Deacon and find the "tourist"

For now, follow Deacon, he says they have a tourist informant who has information about the base.

You will follow the signs of the Subway, left by the tourist, and climb up the old highway. On the way, get ready to repel the attack of wild ghouls and look into the bus they got out of, there you will find Nuclear Cola Quantum. Also on the way, the Deacon will tell you the code phrase: "Now under repair." Use it in a conversation with the informant, no matter what he says.

Ricky Dalton, an Underground tourist, will inform you that the Joe Slokum Cafe is crawling with old-generation synths. They mined the main entrance, it is better not to go through it.

    Talk to Deacon

Discuss the situation with the Deacon. It offers you a choice: to go head-on from the main entrance or through a tunnel - an alternate route. I guess it's better to choose the tunnel. If you try to enter through the basement of the cafe, then in addition to the fact that you will be met by traps, synths and turrets, it will also be impossible to access the elevator located behind the bookcase, and you will have to go through a tunnel. Waste of time.

    Get into the tunnel

Now you lead, not the Deacon. Go down the old highway in the same way as you climbed it. On the way to the mark indicating the location of the tunnel, you will surely stumble upon abandoned train cars. Inside one of them there will be a terminal (level - medium), which opens the lock to a chamber with T-45 power armor, although the set is incomplete: a torso, left arm, right leg and, of course, a nuclear unit.

    Reference: T-45 Power Armor

The T-45's power armor cannot match the protection offered by more advanced models, but it does support the full range of modifications. This model of power armor is not very common, but the complete set can only be found on the roof of the Freedom Museum in Concord.

Then you will see a large pipe overgrown with wild plants - this is the tunnel.

Follow the sewer and find yourself at the old Subway base. As soon as you enter, the Deacon will finally tell you why you came here. You need to pick up the prototype designed by Dr. Carrington.

    Collect Carrington's prototype

From the very beginning of the path, you will run into a closed door. It is opened by the terminal (the level is very difficult), you can hack it yourself, if the level allows, or let the Deacon do it. He will be able to access terminals that you could not hack all the way to your goal.

Go forward, killing synths, when you see a subway sign with a rectangle inside, as in the screenshot below, look into the pipe behind the boxes. There is a window cut out below, and inside is a cache of ammunition and weapons.

When the tunnel ends, you will again run into the door. Open it using the terminal located nearby (level - easy). So you got to the Underground base, which is called "Switch" - a secret research laboratory of the Defense Intelligence Agency. You need to get to the very center of the complex to pick up the prototype.

In the very first large room of the Switch, take the nuclear block for power armor in the room on the left. Then go upstairs.

    hint

On the desk next to the globe you will find US Covert Operations Guide Issue 2. It will open or enhance the already existing magazine perk, with which it will be more difficult to detect you in the mode of covert movement. You can familiarize yourself with all the magazine perks.

On the same table there is a central terminal (the level is difficult), you can of course hack it (get experience), but there is nothing useful in it. Only information for general development.

And here is another terminal (level - difficult)in the same room near the door disables optical traps waiting for you outside the door. You will go to the right you will find medicines in the first-aid kit, and behind the locked door (the lock level is medium) - ammunition. And the road to the left brings you closer to the mission goal. You can just follow the signs on the walls, you need to get to Department X. Once you get there, the Deacon will gain access to the terminal and open the door of the safe room.

    Locations for research:

    • Charlestown
    • Bunker Hill
    • Cambridge
    • Ticonderoga

    Give Carrington a prototype

Your first official assignment in the Underground is to deliver to Dr. Carrington the prototype that you and Deacon obtained from the Commutator as part of the Undercover Quest. And then ask if he needs help.

One of the Underground agents, Old Man Stockton, needs help with a runaway synth, H2-22. All information about the problem must be taken from the Underground's cache. A cache is a specially marked mailbox that agents use as a means of communication. And do not forget about the callsign, without which you will not be dealt with.

    Callsign

Password: "Do you have a Geiger counter?"

    Feedback: "He's under repair now."

    Charisma

You can try to convince a distrustful Carrington that he can trust you and you will be up to the task (level of conviction - medium).

Stockton is a businessman from Bunker Hill, and the cache must be in that area somewhere. Use the secret passage from the headquarters to exit through the tunnel.

    Pick up bookmark

Coming out through the secret passage, walk along the embankment, then across the bridge, and there it is already very close to the cache. In the cache is a holotape of Stockton.

    Meet Old Man Stockton

Head to Bunker Hill, a massive manu-lation settlement you are unlikely to miss. It is located not far from the cache.

Old Man Stockton is waiting for you at the local market. Don't forget the callsign. He's supposed to deliver H2-22 to a point near Bunker Hill, but the raiders have made it difficult, your task is to clear the meeting place.

    hint

Before leaving Bunker Hill, climb the spiral staircase in the settlement's central tower to the very top. There on the table you will find magazine "Live and Love" issue 5, which can open up a new perk for you, with which you gain 25% more experience when persuading men. The entire list of magazine perks can be viewed

    Clear the meeting place

Reach the ruined church at the junction of Charlestown and Cambridge, marked on your map in Pip-Boy.

Beware of super mutants that may meet you along the way. However, your main enemy is the raiders, who need to be interrupted for the synth transfer to take place.

    Wait until night falls

Wait until 23:00 for Stockton and synth H2-22 to arrive. The old man will give you a synth, and he will light a kerosene lamp, as a signal that everything is clean, and will leave.

Now the Subway agent should come to take the synth to a safe place. While you are waiting, you can try to talk to the non-chatty H2, who for some reason does not want to talk about the Institute.

    Charisma

Apply the gift of persuasion to H2-22 (level - medium).

    Wait for the connected Subway

The messenger's name is Hi-Rise, you can ask him for a password in order to make sure that he is his own

He needs to deliver the synth to the Ticonderoga Station, and for this Hi-Rise still needs your help, since the raiders "sit on the tail".

    Follow the High Rise

You will head approximately south towards the raider camp at Monsignor Plaza. If you have not yet cleared this location, then beware of raiders and turrets. Deal with the enemies, and from there make the last dash to Ticonderog.

    Talk to High Rise

So you've been on a routine operation to get synths to safety. Hi-Rise was delighted to work with you. He also invites you to Tikonderoga, if you suddenly need something, just take the elevator. The description of this location will be in one of the next Subway quests "Operation Ticonderoga".

Passing the game Fallout 4 often conceals quite a few interesting, and sometimes difficult quests, the implementation of which can sometimes be compared only with a detective investigation. One of these quests in the "Molecular Level" quest is the search for the subway. With the completion of this quest, the players have a lot of questions: How to find the Fallout 4 subway, what is the password to the subway, how to open the door, and dial the code. In this article we will try to answer all of these frequently asked questions about finding a subway in Fallout 4.

As you may have guessed, the quest begins with taking the "Molecular Level" quest, the completion of which will be offered to you according to the plot. Looking at the map, we are looking for an object called the Old Northern Church, it will be our goal, inside it will be the cherished door to the subway. On the map, the Church is located above the Neighborhood object.

The starting point in this dangerous adventure will be the Railway Station. After you find yourself at the station, you need to find a large fountain, next to which there will be a sign. Approach it and take a close look around, a red marker line will lead from the plate - it will show us the way to the Old Church.

Move strictly along the line, not where you turn off. Having approached the church, you need to go inside and turn right, go down to the basement. During the descent, be careful, as on the way you will have to destroy quite a few different monsters, one of which will be the Legendary Wild Ghoul-Eater (the easiest way to deal with him is with a shotgun). Therefore, stock up on ammo and good weapons, it will definitely be fun there.

Moving along the corridors of the basement on one of the walls on the right you will see a large sign (button) with the name "Ring of the Way of Freedom" - this will be the code mechanism from the secret entrance to the subway. In order to enter the code, you need to enter a combination of letters. Each letter will be entered by rotating the wheel and pressing the center of the button, thereby confirming the letter selection. In this case, the letter should be aligned with the red marker, in the form of an arrow drawn in the center of the ring.

In Fallout 4 - The Underground is one of the warring factions, whose idea is based on loyalty to synth biorobots. They unblock their consciousness, free some and take them to different places in the Boston Commonwealth by secret paths, sincerely believing that biorobots have self-awareness, which means they should have a chance to get their personal life. Many are interested in how to get into Subway in Fallout 4.

They sincerely hate the Brotherhood of Steel, which wants to destroy the synths and the Institute, which distorts human nature, and also gathered all possible technologies under it. They dream of revolution and do not shy away from getting their hands dirty.

    Where to find?

In fact, you will certainly not pass by Subways... The plot is arranged in such a way that on assignment you will have to visit the hermits' headquarters and cooperate a little with them - here and then you can join the faction or decide for yourself that you need to destroy it. As a rule, players usually choose the second option.

How to get to the subway in Fallout 4

If you want to find their abode earlier, then go to the basement Old North Church and there on the circular cipher enter the word “ RAILROAD ".

    Should I enter the Subway?

Of course, the faction has its own shops, a separate quest line and a unique companion character, but in the end it's not worth it. Overflowing with a thirst for power, the inhabitants of the Underground will never miss the chance to exterminate the Brotherhood and the Institute. If you want to understand what you will get in the end, then you can read on our website an article about all
