What's better s6 edge. Galaxy S6 vs S7 comparison - which is the best choice? Runtime - Battery

If you ask any user of mobile gadgets which smartphone is out of competition, both in the Russian market and in the foreign, almost everyone will answer that this is an Apple phone. For many years now, Apple's smartphones have maintained a leading position in the mobile phone market. And if you compare any product from this company with the best phones from other manufacturers, Apple devices in most cases will take the leading positions.

However, there are exceptions. Despite the fact that iPhones have proven themselves well among tens of thousands of consumers, sometimes someone hesitates and thinks about switching to another brand. Among such gadgets that can seriously compete with iPhones is Samsung Galaxy. In terms of its functionality, Galaxy is very close to the sixth es version of the iPhone, so from time to time, someone tries to compare these two devices.

Today's article compares the iPhone 6S or Samsung Galaxy S6. Based on a detailed analysis, we will try to figure out which is better than an iPhone 6 or Samsung 6 in order to make the right choice and not regret it in the future.

If you choose a phone based on the specifications, and think about where to focus your attention - on the iPhone 6S or Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge - then the latter gadget will clearly win. The display of the Korean device is significantly larger, and its work is based on more modern technology. The screen cover is made of special glass. But both devices have fingerprint scanners, which provides great opportunities in the user's data protection system and simplifies the process of paying for purchases, which is now carried out in a matter of seconds.

The disadvantages of Galaxy are, first of all, in its large dimensions: the Korean device is somewhat thicker than its American counterpart. But this difference is not so significant and is only 0.1 millimeter. Another disadvantage of this model is the camera slightly protruding from the body. However, the quality of the Samsung phone itself is much better.

Samsung Galaxy camera advantages over the iPhone 6S:

  • Optics stabilization.
  • More (100%) number of megapixels.
  • Front camera, superior in all respects to the iPhone camera.

It should be fair to say that the cases are good for both devices. But the iPhone has an all-aluminum body, while the Galaxy includes glass elements. Although glass looks beautiful, it is a rather fragile material, so its presence in the case can be attributed to minor disadvantages. But, nevertheless, it all depends on the accuracy of the user and his approach to the operation of mobile equipment. Owners of a Samsung device can only be advised to handle smartphones as carefully as possible and prevent the device from falling from a great height.

Samsung Galaxy S6, if you compare this phone with other, earlier products from Samsung, is radically different from them. Previously, all phones came in plastic cases. The design has become more perfect, the finishing is more sophisticated and refined. The color scheme is varied and includes 5 colors

The manufacturer released Galaxy in the following colors:

  • White.
  • Gold.
  • Deep blue.
  • Blue.
  • Green.

You will not find such a color palette on any other device. As Galaxy sales statistics show, most users have focused on the white case - oddly enough, because of its practicality and because it gets dirty less than other cases. However, it is often necessary to clean the housing and wipe it with a dry cloth, since fingerprints remain on it (this feature applies only to the glass elements of the device).

The body of the gadget from Samsung has become monolithic, which eliminated the possibility of installing a SIM card compartment and a removable battery in the device. The capacity of the latter, in comparison with other models, has not been increased, but it still surpasses the iPhone 6S in power. In addition, the manufacturer added a wireless charger to the gadget - this is one of its main chips and advantages over the iPhone.

By the way, Galaxy's filling is richer. The device from Samsung is based on a 14-bit processor and 3 gigabytes of RAM. And the sixth iPhone version S has a 64-bit A8 processor, and only 1 gigabyte of RAM.

Going a little ahead, let's touch on the differences between the displays. Samsung did not increase the diagonal of the screen either, it remained. As in previous phones - 5.1 inches. The iPhone six looks worse in this regard, but one cannot say that it is bad - no, but its Korean competitor is clearly winning here.

It should be noted that the display can be the main feature of any mobile device, because when choosing it, a potential consumer pays attention first of all. And only then he considers the camera, the quality of the buttons, the efficiency of opening applications, etc. Even at the first glance at the two compared high-tech devices, it becomes clear that the engineers from Korea have done a great job, making the Galaxy screen thoughtful in terms of design and more convenient.

iPhone 6S VS Samsung Galaxy S6: screen test

The Galaxy S6 VS and iPhone 6 S displays have very different specifications. The screen of the first device is based on advanced technology and includes a self-emitting matrix with organic light diodes. The pixel density of Galaxy is phenomenal - at 577 ppi, and today it is the best indicator among mobile devices.

The display of the iPhone six of the S version is more conservative and includes an inch LCD matrix. The pixel density of the latter is 2 times less than that of a smartphone from Samsung. If you look closely at the iPhone screen, then the pixelation becomes noticeable, while the second gadget does not have this at all. Although, if you do not look closely, on the displays of both models the picture is quite decent, striking and clear. Only the most discerning user can find fault with the iPhone 6 on this indicator.

By the way, it is worth talking about the degree of screen brightness in more detail. This characteristic of Galaxy can reach 380 cd / m2 with the maximum reduction of the white fill area, and in bright light, even this quite good result increases by 3.5 times.

So, the undeniable advantages of the Galaxy display are as follows:

  • Brighter screen.
  • Highly effective anti-glare coating.
  • Increased contrast.
  • Rich color and natural picture in any lighting conditions.

The brightness of the iPhone 6 S, if we consider the maximum indicator, is also high - 550 cd / m2, but the Galaxy still loses to the smartphone. The display of this device also has anti-glare technology and a high contrast ratio.

The range of both devices does not cause any problems when setting up, and the indicators are close to ideal values. Moreover, everything is practically the same for both phones.

In general, a comparison of the screens of the iPhone 6 S and Galaxy shows the clear superiority of the Korean smartphone in the following indicators:

  • Brightness and contrast.
  • The latitude of the viewing angles.
  • More flexible color rendering settings.

Despite the above, it will again emphasize that Galaxy's superiority does not mean that the iPhone is bad in any respect. For example, the LCD technology in the display is the most advanced among all smartphones. And for an ordinary user, all the differences from Galaxy listed above are not striking. But, of course, an experienced user will immediately notice the blue tinge on the display, as well as imperfect clarity.

Comparison of iPhone 6 to Galaxy S 6: the most important

Finally, we will give a visual comparison of the characteristics of the two devices, so that you can quickly determine for yourself the advantages and disadvantages of each phone. Below is a comparative table of both gadgets.

iPhone 6S VS iPhone 6S - comparative characteristics, table

Phone model Samsung Galaxy S6 32GB Apple iPhone 6 16GB
Price from RUB 25,000 from 40,000 rubles
The weight OK. 140 gram OK. 130 gram
Operating system Android 5 iOS version 9
Image resolution 16 megapixels 8 megapixels
Screen diagonal 5.1 inch 4.7 inch
CPU Samsung Exynos 7420 Apple a8
Processor cores 8 2
RAM 32 gigabytes 16 gigabytes

From the table above, you can clearly see the similarities and differences of the 2 smartphone models that today's review is devoted to. So, as always, Apple phones are one of the most expensive mobile gadgets on the market. Is it justified or not? Here, the opinions of users, as always, diverge. But a number of owners of "apple" devices have a strong opinion that, with all the positive properties of iPhones, their price is much too high. Advanced users know how to buy a phone from Apple much cheaper than in Russia - for example, buy an American device and then unlock it.

One of the significant differences between one device and another is the camera, the characteristics of which are undoubtedly better in Galaxy. In terms of performance, the performance of the Samsung device also surpasses the iPhone 6S.

However, despite all of the above, we note that any technique is tested in action. On paper, incl. in the instructions for the devices, a lot can be written, because each manufacturer praises his product. You should also listen to the opinions of other users. But do not put them at the forefront when choosing a smartphone for yourself, since everyone has their own tastes and preferences. For each of us, certain functions of the phone are important. For some - the quality of communication during calls, for others - the capabilities of the RAM and performance, for the third - the quality of the camera, etc.

Many who are used to changing their smartphone once a year (in accordance with the schedule for changing most flagships) wonder whether it is worth spending 40,000 rubles on an update. Last year, the flagship of the S line from Samsung cost about 30 thousand, this year - about 10 thousand more. Willy-nilly, you start looking towards more affordable solutions. And here you are already asking yourself: how to save money and at the same time make the right choice? Or maybe it's worth overpaying and getting one of the best devices on the market?

So, the selection criteria: a new device from a well-known manufacturer (not Chinese), premium body materials, a good camera, a high-quality screen. For the purity of the experiment, let's take 2 devices from the same manufacturer.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy A7 in my hands. Both devices are nicely built. S6 is metal and glass on the back, A7 is metal (partially painted) throughout. Both devices have good cameras: 16 megapixels with optical stabilization in the S6 and a 13-megapixel module without it in the A7. And there, and there Super Amoled screens (QHD for the S6 and FullHD for the A7).

Let's try to figure out whether it's worth overpaying 17,000 rubles (namely, such a difference in the official cost of devices at the time of writing the review) for the older Galaxy S6 model.

Seven good reasons for the Galaxy S6

1) Image / Flagship

The Galaxy S6 is a top-end smartphone from Samsung until the fall of 2015, when the Note 5 comes out. Hence the perception of the device. The wow effect, of course, is not the same as from the iPhone 6 at the time of release, but close to it. This time the device is uncompromising - glass, metal, in the hand it feels not like a plastic toy, but like an "adult", solid thing. This is unusual for Samsung.

size 2

You take the S6 in your hand after the A7 and you are happy - it is not so difficult to reach for the upper left corner of the screen. The smartphone fits perfectly in the hand. The size is what you need. It is optimal for a compromise between usability and screen size.

3) Screen

The screen in the Galaxy S6 is enchantingly good. The resolution is 2560x1440 with a diagonal of 5.1 inches (many modern TVs with large diagonals have a lower resolution). The pixel density is a record for mobile devices - 577 dots per inch (for comparison, printing - 300 dots). But in everyday use, it will be difficult to notice the difference with the FullHD screen, unless, of course, you carry a magnifying glass with you.

4) Camera

Samsung has been putting great cameras on flagships in recent years. The Galaxy S6 is no exception. In all conditions (and in sunny weather, and indoors, and in the evening), the S6 allows you to take excellent shots of the amateur level. The camera works very well under any conditions. Optical stabilization does its job for the "five" - where the A7 smears heavily, the S6 shoots clearly.

5) Platform / performance

Other planet. The first thing that comes to mind when you compare the S6 and A7 head on. Samsung's flagship just flies. Interface, launching applications, switching between programs - cosmically fast. No, the A7 is not slow. The Galaxy S6 is just too fast. And you quickly get used to it.

6) Functionality (chips)

The lack of "bells and whistles", which I will soon count as a "plus" of the A7, for the S6 - an unaffordable luxury. Everything that Samsung came up with is here (with the exception of the stylus and the tricks associated with its use - this is the territory of the Note line). The smartphone can absorb in itself for a couple of days. And all the same, you will not even guess about some of the possibilities. For many, this complicates the process of using the phone; others, on the contrary, cannot imagine their life without, for example, a heart rate sensor. The plus is that you don't have to use all the bells and whistles. But knowing that they are there is always nice.

7) Android version updates

And the last thing. The Galaxy S6 runs Android 5 (out of the box 5.0.2). Since this is the company's flagship, you can be confident that the S6 will be one of the first to receive system updates in the future. However, the A7 in Russia also received an update to version 5.0.2.

Six good reasons for the A7

1) Screen size

In the head of many smartphone owners there is an understanding that the larger the screen in the smartphone, the cooler and more expensive it is (fans of Apple products after the release of the 6 and 6 Plus are definitely convinced of this). But there are exceptions to all the rules.

The diagonal of the screen in the A7 is 5.5 inches with a resolution of 1920x1080. It is bright, saturated, the settings allow you to "fit" the screen for yourself (for critics of AMOLED screens, this will be very important). The screen doesn't seem too big after a day of use. You quickly adapt to use with two hands. After the A7, I don't want to go back to smaller screens. The resolution is more than enough to not see individual pixels (although those who want to find pixelated fonts will find them). The text on the screen is crisp, photos and videos are displayed perfectly. The screen behaves very well in the sun - an excellent margin of brightness affects.

2) Housing

The A7, like the entire Galaxy A series (A3, A5, A7), uses an all-metal body. The smartphone is not separable (it will not work to throw the battery on the go). It's worth noting that the A7 is the thinnest Galaxy smartphone to date. Even a slightly protruding camera does not spoil the impression of the device. In general, such a solution looks more reliable in terms of the phone being dropped. And which is better - a dent in the metal or broken glass - it is up to the end user to decide. I vote for metal.

3) Simplicity

It's strange to write this, but the Galaxy A7 attracts, among other things, its simplicity. There is no heart rate sensor, fingerprint unlocking, and fewer camera settings. In general, the A7 is a smartphone without unnecessary bells and whistles. For some, this is a definite plus.

4) Expandable memory

The Galaxy A7 has 16 gigabytes of internal storage. To whom this is not enough, it can expand the memory at the expense of a memory card (memory up to 64 GB is supported). In the Galaxy S6, you need to select the storage capacity when purchasing. At the same time, the cost of additional space turns out to be much higher than the cost of a memory card of the same volume.

5) Dual Sim

Galaxy A7 has 2 SIM card slots. In fact, you cannot directly call it a device with 2 SIM cards. The user needs to make a choice - either put 2 SIM cards, or expand the memory using a microSD card (universal slot). Previously, I was confused by such a decision. Now I see more pluses than minuses in it. Do you need to insert a work SIM card? Please. Need more memory for your travel photos? No problem!

6) Price

Here the victory of the Galaxy A7 is obvious. If we consider the official sales channels, the A7 is about a third cheaper than the Galaxy S6.

conclusions

Is the Galaxy S6 better than the Galaxy A7? Yes, it's better. In almost everything. Is the S6 better enough to overpay 12-13 thousand rubles for it? It seems to me that yes, so much better. Smartphone prices rose in line with the ruble exchange rate. But the flagships remained the flagships - and the manufacturers asked more for the best before.

New smartphones keep getting better and better. We can say that they simply delight with their innovations and new approach. However, as soon as it comes down to how to make a choice between two amazing new products, the question immediately arises: "Which device is still better?" This time we're talking about the iPhone 6S and Samsung Galaxy S6.

What is the difference between displays?

The Samsung Galaxy S6 had the privilege of being proud of the best display of any smartphone, although it held onto that crown until its older brother, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, came and stole it. The gadget has a 5.1-inch Super Amoled display with Quad HD resolution (2560 × 1440), the pixel density of which is 557 ppi.

The iPhone 6S has nothing to boast about in this regard! Only 1,334 x 750 pixels located on a 4.7-inch display. Seems scarce by comparison on paper, no? Apple's display is said to appear sharper and better when you see it directly with your own eyes. Of course, if you do not use it with virtual reality glasses (which, by the way, are not very common yet), you will be satisfied with what you see.

The iPhone 6s has some characteristics that are foreign to the Samsung Galaxy S6. For example, 3D Touch is actually a redesigned mobile version of Force Touch that Apple announced on the latest MacBooks. 3D touch allows you to open different windows using different degrees of finger pressure, "dive" deeper into applications and much more.

A light touch on the email shows a short preview, a stronger press will open the already full version of the application, where you can do more. As much as we tease Apple for catching up with the features already available on other phones over the years, we can't say that anyone has repeated this thing. This technology has been quite innovative in the field of displays since the days of multitouch.

Whose camera is better?

The Samsung Galaxy S6 wins this category thanks to its 16MP sensor and boasts 4K footage with an excellent f / 1.9 aperture. However, Apple has surpassed itself by improving the camera of the new IPhone 6S 12 MP. This is perhaps the first time that an Apple camera has double-digit megapixels.

She also shoots in 4K. The front-facing camera has caught up with the Samsung camera. Apple is finally fixing the low light problem in a unique way: using the same bright LED display. How does that compare to the flash on the front camera?

iPhone 6S vs Galaxy S6

Both phones have fast enough autofocus, take pictures well in the dark, and display colors well. They have dual-tone flash and HDR. You are unlikely to find anything amiss with both sensors.
By the way, Apple beckons customers with its "revolutionary feature" called Live Photos. You pinch your finger on the shutter button and the photo turns into a video.

Awesome! Well, in truth, this is just a photo that allows you to show a short amount of time before and after the photo was taken. This can be viewed without the help of any applications, thanks to the Apple API, which was created for this. But seriously, this is just a short video.

What is the strength in, brother"?

It's amazing to see 2GB of RAM on an Apple device, while all previous products have come with 1GB of RAM for years. However, it happened. 2 gigabytes of RAM in the iPhone 6S. Samsung's flagships now have 3GB of RAM, so Apple doesn't make much noise about this. The question is, of course, controversial. Apple's performance has always thrived despite competition from Samsung on paper. This is what happens when you have complete control over your software and hardware.

The promised 80-90% improvement in the 64-bit A9 chip over the A8 made the already fast smartphone even faster. Samsung's 64-bit Octa-Core Exynos 7420 was also a very big leap with the snapdragon 801 that was used in last year's smartphones. There were also problems with RAM and the need to reproduce 2560x1440 pixels.

Design

Apple smartphones 6S and 6S Plus are absolutely identical to their previous models. They are, of course, great with their slim aluminum bodies and simple design. Your eye will not have to strain here, because this is an iPhone.

But for Samsung in this regard, everything has changed. They came out of their plastic shell. Now it is made of metal. But, as before, the phone cannot be called “all-metal”.

Slender metal frames envelop gorilla glass on the sides. However, due to the new design, I had to lose such aspects as water resistance, slots for micro-SD and removable batteries. But, holding the phone in hand, we can confidently say that this is a high-quality smartphone.

Conclusion

Two smartphones from two giants of the smartphone world - IPhone 6S and Samsung Galaxy S6 - which one will you like? Let us know as soon as you decide

Introduction

It has become a good tradition to compare products of the same type, which not only act in the same class, but borrow a lot from each other, as a result, are perceived at the same level. In a detailed comparison-review, I would like to dwell on both the little things and the basic things in order to move from the private to the general, what each of these phones can give. I will focus not only on the technical specifications, they are useless apart from the use cases, but on what and how you can do on these phones. What are the benefits you get from working with them.

If you know that the iPhone is the best phone or the Galaxy surpasses the iPhone, then close the page and save your nerves. Fans of this or that device should definitely not read the weighted text, where all the capabilities of the devices are considered with examples and everything is illustrated with detailed calculations. Having made such a reservation, let's get down to reviewing the devices.

An important addition. Everywhere I consider the EDGE model, but apart from the curved screen, as well as the price, it does not differ from the Galaxy S6, so you can safely extend all the considerations to this device. In the conclusions, we will consider it from the point of view of price / quality ratio, but the EDGE model will constantly appear in the text as the closest in positioning to the iPhone 6s.

Case dimensions, weight, materials and design

Discussing other people's tastes is a thankless task. Some people like one thing, some others, so let's leave the design aside and focus on the quality of execution and the practical consequences of this.

Samsung switched to 7000 series aluminum alloy, the same material was later used in the iPhone 6s. Interestingly, with comparable body sizes, the iPhone weighs 143 grams versus 132 grams for EDGE. But the sizes differ as follows:

  • iPhone 6s - 138.3x67.1x7.1mm
  • Galaxy S6 EDGE - 142.1 x 70.1 x 7.0 mm

Both devices fit well in the hand, a rounded edge cuts into the EDGE at first, but you quickly get used to it. I often hear that these devices are slippery, but I have never had such problems. For those who do not like the side edge of the EDGE, you can check out the regular S6. It feels as close to the iPhone as possible in the hand, there are no differences.

Often, users of the previous iPhone 6 say that the 6s has become heavier and this is noticeable in the hand. It's true, the center of gravity is located so that the phone is perceived as weighty, this is a subjective impression, the differences in grams are not so huge.

The back cover on EDGE is covered with glass, the metallic color plays in the sun, fingerprints are not visible on it (only under certain lighting conditions). Corning Gorilla Glass 4, it is resistant to drops and does not break even when dropped on the asphalt from a height of one and a half meters, although the question here is your luck, you can break glass from ten centimeters.

The iPhone 6s uses a metal back with inserts for antennas, this design looks different, there is no metallic sheen effect, and here we again enter the territory of what and who likes more. A matter of taste. From a household point of view, both devices have exactly the same strength and resistance to external influences.

Now let's move on to the front of the devices, namely the glass that covers the display. Samsung uses Corning Gorillla Glass 4, the latest generation of Corning designs, which offers maximum durability, drop resistance and scratch resistance. Many people take scratch resistance as a statement that they can not be at all and the phone can be safely carried with the keys. Unfortunately, this is not the case, no one is insured against minor scratches. They appeared on my phone after several months of daily use, and this is absolutely normal.

The iPhone 6s features mineral, tempered glass. I often had to read on various resources that Corning glass is also installed here, but there is simply no confirmation of this. Apple is not listed on the manufacturer's website, you can find the list itself.

Another point is related to the fact that the glass behaves exactly the same as on the iPhone 6, it has less resistance to scratches, for example, in my pocket and without keys there was such a long scratch from the second phone. Nobody scratched the phone on purpose.

It is also known that the mineral glass on the iPhone does not tolerate drops even from low heights, its strength is much inferior to that of Gorilla Glass. The main problem of the iPhone when dropped is a broken screen; in EDGE, from the same height, it often does not get damaged at all. Unfortunately, Apple cannot get access to Corning technologies, as the company is co-owned by Samsung. The result is slightly worse performance in everyday use. Screen replacement is the most expensive operation for any phone, so be careful with them. On the other hand, no one thinks that it is his phone that will fall and break.

In this video, you can see how the 6s screen usually breaks when dropped from a low height, everything is pretty revealing. Let me remind you that such videos are always a game of probability, you can break your phone even if you hit the carpet. Another thing is that the iPhone 6 / 6s is guaranteed to beat when dropped, and this is already a proven fact, but the EDGE / S6, on the contrary, is more difficult to break.

In terms of body materials, these devices are almost on par, the difference is that the iPhone 6s is slightly more fragile due to the mineral glass. But otherwise everything is the same. As well as the ergonomics of the devices are comparable, EDGE gains in screen diagonal with practically the same size and less weight.

I love both devices, they have no compromises in terms of materials, this is the best you can find on the market today.

The fingerprint is equally implemented in these models, reacts to touch, does not work on wet surfaces. The unlocking speed is about the same, there are no differences in everyday life.

Screen Comparison - 4.7 "vs 5.1"

Let's take a look at the table that shows the characteristics of the screens and compare them on paper.

Samsung has consistently improved its own screens, reduced their power consumption and made them better in all aspects of work. The company is a technology leader in this field. Even a comparison of the characteristics on paper shows that the screen resolution and its diagonal are larger, the brightness of the backlight is higher, which allows you to read on the screen even in the bright sun or see the picture in the viewfinder as it will then be displayed in the gallery, after you take a photo. Apple does not have these technologies, and the company has nowhere to purchase them. The difference between devices in this aspect is huge, it can be safely described as a difference in several generations, read, years. This situation has persisted for a couple of years, in different products of companies, the gap in Apple cannot be closed in any way.

In everyday use, if you don't compare screens directly, you will most likely be satisfied with both the first and the second device. Moreover, I will say a seditious thought - if you switch to these devices from the models of previous seasons, the improvement in the quality of the screen will become noticeable in any case. But if you are still going to compare them directly and choose which is better, then you should remember about several serious differences. In EDGE, as well as in all devices with SuperAMOLED, there is a setting for improving the brightness depending on the conditions (the conditions mean both external lighting and the content that you are watching). For example, in the browser, when viewing pages, the white color on the iPhone will be different, but on the Note it gives off a little yellowness - this is not a screen problem at all, but an initial setting that was made to reduce eye fatigue and increase the device's operating time.

The marketing term Retina means that in an outstretched hand, you, having 100% vision, will not be able to see the mesh of the screen, that is, individual dots. Both devices fit this definition well. But the general impression of the texts in the browser on EDGE is better, the fonts are smoother - you can see it with ease in a photo, you cannot distinguish it in real life, even looking closely. But there is a difference, and it is felt.

Apple iPhone 6s / Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Runtime - Battery

It is impossible to come to the forehead when comparing the operating time of devices, based on the capacity of the battery, because the operating time depends on the performance of the processor, the operating time of the screen and the brightness of its backlight, and other characteristics of the phone. Historically, the iPhone has been thought to be a smartphone that lasts a long time. As a rule, it was based on the fact that the small screen of the iPhone did not consume as much power, while Android smartphones went far both in resolution and diagonally. In 2015, these parameters were partially leveled, the power consumption in the iPhone is lower for many tasks, but the battery is also smaller.

The battery capacity in 6s is 1750 mAh (Li-Pol), in EDGE - 2600 mAh. The difference is big, but is it really that big in everyday life? I want to make a reservation right away that the utility that is in iOS9 and shows the operating time of the device for the last 24 hours is almost inapplicable in order to estimate the real operating time, in Android the system utility that shows the power consumption is much better and more informative. Moreover, Apple has traditionally misled consumers by showing battery life as the sum of screen and background processes, which in past years has led many to believe that 6-7 hours is screen time. In fact, this is not the case. However, you can calculate the operating time of the screen yourself, summing up each line, and see how long the phone worked.

Video playback time on iPhone is up to 10 hours, on EDGE - about 12.5 hours. With the same screen brightness settings. But such a head-on comparison is rather artificial, since in life we use different capabilities of the phone, write messages, make calls, connect a headset to the device and listen to music.

For almost three weeks, I have been using these two devices daily, trying to provide roughly comparable workloads. The task is not an easy one, I changed SIM-cards one day after another in order to create approximately the same conditions. And here are the conclusions I came to.

First, the runtime for these two devices is about the same in real-world use cases. The benefits of EDGE in some scenarios (video, data transfer) are not overwhelming, they are described in a 20-25% increase in operating time. For example, this can be seen when distributing the Internet to other devices. With an average load of smartphones, they will work from morning to evening, with heavy use in the tail and mane, they will last until lunchtime. The impression is that they are very close in terms of operating time, it is impossible to name a clear winner here.

Secondly, it is worth noting that if the phones are not used, the iPhone will show the best battery life, it actually freezes and does nothing. Therefore, if your phone is lying for a long time (a week or so), then you will like the iPhone. This is rather a flaw in Android, which constantly rushes to transfer something in the background.

Of the minuses of the iPhone, I would like to note a very long charge, 2-2.5 hours before full capacity. Of course, you can take an iPad charger, but this will negatively affect battery capacity and battery life. EDGE has fast adaptive charging (corresponding charger included). In 15 minutes, you can get 25 percent of the charge, which is convenient and allows you to charge the device on the go, in those moments when you find yourself near the outlet. Complete freedom with charging pampers, I have lost the habit of charging my phone at night, now I do it only as needed and when it is convenient for me.

Built-in wireless charging is also a big plus, the iPhone has nothing like this. This is undoubtedly an additional option, and it is not the most important one, but sometimes in public places where there are such chargers, this allows you to recharge the device in a short time.

In iOS9, power saving settings appeared, they cut off data transfer, make the interface slower, in a word, remove everything unnecessary. But they cannot drastically increase the operating time. EDGE has several power saving modes, and in the extreme version, we get hours of work for calls and SMS, as the screen goes gray and consumes almost no power. This is simply not possible for an IPS display on an iPhone.

Another point worth mentioning. In the iPhone 6s on a Samsung processor, the operating time is noticeably shorter, you can read about this in detail.

My device has a processor manufactured by TSMC, so the comparability of models in terms of operating time with EDGE applies only to this configuration. If you have an iPhone 6s with a Samsung processor, it will run 15-20 percent less. It is worth remembering this.

Performance, chipsets, RAM

I am not familiar with people who buy phones without regard to their cost. It so happened that Apple fans are very proud of how the processors in the iPhone are optimized, how many virtual parrots they show in virtual tests and how they bypass other solutions in terms of performance in terms of one processor core. But the problem is that a person buys a complete solution in which there are already so many processor cores and such and such a performance. It is the choice of each company how to optimize its device - to focus on optimizing old hardware and achieve high performance through the OS (Apple) or to create the most powerful solution that is powerful enough for any task (Samsung).

If the difference in the stuffing would also affect the cost of the solution, then any comparisons would be appropriate. But in a situation where a hardware-rich solution is cheaper, there is no point in complaining that the performance in virtual parrots is somehow different. This is just nonsense that is interesting to a very limited circle of people who are trying to show that their favorite manufacturer is better. This approach has nothing to do with real use cases.

In real life, the performance of these two solutions has no or almost no differences. The opening speed of applications is about the same. The implementation of RAM differs, for example, the iPhone has a limit on the number of open tabs in the browser, there cannot be a hundred or so, as is allowed on Android. Do you need so many tabs? It depends on you. The latest versions of Android use application reloading when opened from memory, they are restored to the same state as they were. But it often takes time. On an iPhone, recent apps load faster, unless you've launched something gluttonous. In everyday life, the difference is almost imperceptible, if you do not sit with a stopwatch in hand.

Now for an important note regarding iOS9. In 2014, I wrote that the quality of iOS, starting from version 7, has been consistently decreasing, in version 8 we have already seen a sufficient number of shortcomings, it was not accepted in the best way. But the 9th version overshadowed everything that came before. At the moment, my iPhone 6s is already working on version 9.1, but a bunch of small and not very problems have not been fixed. What are at least missing signals for messages in different programs, that is, they are not. This is a basic feature found in any phone, and it works there. There is also a lottery, sometimes there is a sound, sometimes it disappears. Software error. As one iPhone fan wrote, he got into the habit of checking his phone for messages every 15 minutes. I think this is idiocy.

There is also a problem with CapsLock, when the letters in the keyboard jump randomly. They have not been able to fix it for a long time.

With the release of 9.1, which was supposed to remove many of the problems, they only got worse. Visual glitches and window overlays began to appear in the interface.

An example of how mail works on my phone, although you could rather say that it does not work.

Well, the cherry on top is that when Wi-Fi is on, the phone often downloads data via the mobile network. The iOS9 version is just something, and its quality is far from anything that can be called a stable system. Unfortunately, I cannot compare it with Android 5.1 on EDGE, since on the latter I always hear notifications, the interface is not buggy and there are no other "little things". It should be noted here that Apple's ignorance of the basic principles of software development, which they had in previous years, led to such sad consequences. While the company's fans defend her, promising that they will soon fix everything, ordinary people begin to wonder if the king is naked. It's impossible to describe iOS9 in any words, it's just a disaster.

Cameras, comparison of photo quality

I'll start with the front camera. For the first time, the iPhone has received a new high-resolution front camera, it is 5 megapixels. Exactly the same camera resolution in Samsung, but there are a few differences. For example, Samsung traditionally has customizable Beauty Face functions, it removes skin imperfections and can make your face glossy.

iPhone 6S Galaxy S6 Edge

The girls are delighted with this opportunity, they really like it. Everyone else, I think, doesn't care, unless you love taking selfies.

When recording video on the front camera, the quality is approximately comparable, it does not differ dramatically.

  • Sample video to the front camera (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) (MP4, 26 MB) >>>
  • Sample video to the front camera (Apple iPhone 6S) (MP4, 26 MB) >>>

For the iPhone, the new front-facing camera is a huge step forward, as cameras were quite mediocre in quality until recently. Now they are at the market level, but nothing more.

Now let's look at the main camera, they differ in resolution, in Samsung the matrix is 16 megapixels, in the iPhone - 12 megapixels. But, as you know, it is not the resolution that determines the quality of the images, but the algorithm for processing information from the matrix. From the point of view of everyday use, pictures from iPhone and EDGE will be comparable in most cases, the slight superiority of EDGE on the phone screen will not be noticeable in any way, and almost no one is looking at pictures on a PC. The iPhone shots contain less information, you can't zoom them in the same way as with EDGE, but, again, very few people need it. When applied to the phone or social networks, both devices give quite tolerable, high-quality pictures, they can be assessed at the same level. If you dig into the details, it turns out that there are more possibilities on EDGE, you can adjust your camera mode (Pro Mode), select each of the settings and get fundamentally different photos. It's like the automatic mode on a soap dish, where you point the camera and shoot, compare with a professional camera, the second is needed by units, as well as to get a high-quality result, they usually cannot, they simply cannot. I would like to emphasize that the advanced capabilities of the camera in EDGE may not be used, "point and shoot" is valid here as well.

I propose to look at the photos at night and during the day, I am sure that you will not see much difference.

iPhone 6S Galaxy S6 Edge

As before, I advocate for the iPhone, that is, I interpret any comparison in its favor, even where there is a small loss. The reason for this is to neutralize the fact that I use EDGE every day and know this product well.

Communication capabilities

Formally, we are again faced with a two-world approach - one with Apple, using standard and open technologies, but turning them into closed options that are incompatible with other platforms. And there is Android, where everything is implemented as conveniently as possible.

The iPhone has an NFC chip, but it is only used for ApplePay payments (it works in a limited number of places and not in Russia). Accordingly, you cannot use NFC to manage tags, pairing with one-touch accessories, for example, with an external wireless speaker or headset, on the iPhone. It's a very handy technology, but the iPhone doesn't have it - it's present in the EDGE.

Another point is the standards, EDGE uses Bluetooth 4.1, which better implements the control of external devices. As a result, they will last longer on a single charge. The iPhone was tricky with Bluetooth, so every OS update is like a minefield, problems often start where they weren't.

The devices from Samsung, and Note are no exception, they are completely omnivorous, they work with all devices, and there are no problems as such.

Note also that Wi-Fi Direct support allows you to transfer large files to other devices, including smartphones. The AirDrop implementation is much worse from all points of view, and it is much more difficult to set up. It either works, or you just suffer, not understanding what you are doing wrong.

From the point of view of the noise reduction system, these are equivalent devices, two microphones and approximately the same location, the algorithm of operation. There were no problems while using the phones.

Radiation level, SAR value

Both devices work in the same Russian networks, it is interesting to see what the radiation level is, namely the SAR value. You can see the value for iPhone 6s for Russia here at this link.

For EDGE SAR data can be found.

Traditionally, in the iPhone, the radio part emits more, this has already become a tradition. It has not been scientifically proven how radiation affects the human body, we can only say that this parameter is twice as large in the iPhone. Please note that if you are worried and know for sure that radiation is harmful, then you should use a headset and, if possible, do not carry your phone in your pockets. And it is advisable to completely abandon it.

The price of the issue and the final conclusions

Comparing these flagships, I always interpreted any discrepancies in favor of the iPhone, as they say about examiners, pulling it by the ears. Someone will say that the iPhone does not need this, but I disagree. In many little things, this product loses, and the number of such little things is great, if you combine them.

Unfortunately, there is not a single technology in the iPhone 6s that would make the use of this device different, brought it to the leaders in the market and allowed it to overtake the same EDGE. The device is quite secondary, after Samsung, Apple began to use the 7000 series of aluminum, in response to the scandal with bendable phones, which, in my opinion, was far-fetched and in reality there was no such problem.

Many people here can say that the iPhone screen has a new 3D Touch technology, which is not found in any other device. I interviewed all my acquaintances who use the latest generation of iPhone, the answers amazed me. Most people just don't know what it is and how to work with it. The remaining 20 percent were tried once and then spat, it is inconvenient and incomprehensible where it works and where it does not. There is no habit of such technology, which means that its presence or absence does not in any way affect the perception of the device. I also do not remember the infrared port in the S6 / S6 EDGE for controlling household appliances, since it can also be considered a counter that is not very important.

For Russia, it is also worth noting that the iPhone 6s does not have frequency aggregation, that is, the maximum speed in LTE will be limited, this can be fixed with new firmware in the future, so this moment cannot be considered fundamental.

For the average consumer, several points are important in the device - the operating time (the same, but it charges faster than EDGE, plus there is wireless charging), the quality and size of the screen (EDGE is ahead by a wide margin in every sense), the camera (EDGE is a little better for those who can remove, all other differences will not be felt), the quality of the case materials (comparable, but the mineral glass in the iPhone is cheaper and breaks easier). But there is one more parameter that can be called the most important, this is the cost of devices.

So, the price for the iPhone 6s 16GB in Russia starts at 57,000 rubles. The usual Galaxy S6 costs 38,000 rubles, EDGE - 44,000 rubles (prices in the official stores of the companies). It turns out that buying a Galaxy S6, you get a device that costs 19 thousand rubles cheaper, and buying an EDGE, you will save 13 thousand rubles. It is also worth remembering that the basic version of the S6 / S6 EDGE does not have 16 GB of memory, but exactly twice as much - 32 GB.

In my opinion, taking into account that the iPhone 6s does not have a single real, visible advantage over these two models, and the number of bloopers and errors in iOS9 exceeds reasonable limits, the choice is obvious. On the other hand, there are a large number of people who do not know how to choose and stop only at a brand that they know and overpay for it. This is their choice and their money, you cannot condemn them for buying what they like. But it is also impossible to consider their choice reasonable at least in some way, they buy a technologically weaker product for a lot of money. That being said, as shown above, in terms of use cases, the iPhone does not provide any benefit other than the feeling of having an iPhone. However, in Russia most of the people have already made their choice, and since the start of sales of the iPhone 6s, it has not been able to overtake EDGE and S6 in sales, these models are sold in larger quantities.

But this material simply compares the main points in the devices, shows which one is strong in a particular area, and you can draw conclusions yourself. In the end, it’s for you to buy a phone with your own money, and then you vote with a ruble.

P.S. Since such materials always cause hysterics among fans from the two camps, I have a big request, if you are comparing something, do it by examples and indicating the facts, otherwise the discussion will not work out.

Samsung Galaxy S7 - one of the most anticipated smartphones of the first half of 2016 - fully met the expectations of the fans of the South Korean manufacturer and, in general, was liked by the majority of interested users. Along with this, many potential buyers have a quite natural question: is it worth updating from the S6 model, or are the differences between the two smartphones not so significant? More on this later.

Design features

The materials used for the production of the smartphone, as well as the design of the device, surpass those of the S5 in all respects. In the novelty of 2016, the manufacturer decided not to deviate from the chosen path and retained the best features of the S6, without making any noticeable changes. The list of those includes only the following points:

  • part of the camera no longer protrudes above the back cover;
  • the edges of the back panel have become rounded, like on the Samsung Note 5;
  • a slot for flash cards of microSD format appeared;
  • the case has become waterproof;
  • the thickness of the case increased insignificantly, primarily due to the increase in battery capacity.

In general, the 2016 model is more comfortable and ergonomic in the hand, without slipping or causing any other inconvenience.

Display

Samsung Galaxy S6 was equipped with a QHD display with a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. Overall, the screen is still one of the best on the market.

What about the S7 model? The novelty is equipped with a similar QHD Amoled display with a diagonal of 5.1 inches. Among the innovations, the Always On mode should be noted: when activated, indicators of time, battery charge, notifications of missed calls and received messages, etc. are nicely and compactly placed in the center of the display. You can select different options for displaying image data.

For example, the G5 and V10 models from LG are equipped with similar displays.

Camera

The predecessor was equipped with a 16 megapixel camera, which allows you to take high-quality photos with realistic color reproduction and shoot excellent video recordings. The number of megapixels in the S7 model is 12, but the quality, at the same time, has significantly increased. The whole secret lies in the Britecell module: the resolution of the physical matrix is 24 megapixels, but the finished image is formatted in 12 megapixels by combining adjacent dots. As a result of such processing, there is an increase in the sharpness of the picture and a higher definition is provided.

According to the manufacturer, the Galaxy S7 has a near-instant autofocus function, which is also a serious advantage for users who prefer to take photos and shoot videos using a smartphone.

Battery

The battery capacity has grown by 400mAh over the Galaxy S6 and is now 3000mAh. Like its predecessor, the 2016 flagship has super battery saver and fast battery recovery features. On average, it takes 80-90 minutes to fully charge a Galaxy S7 battery. Additional benefits include wireless charging.

Processor and operating system

The 2016 model is powered by Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820 processors, depending on the recipient country. The Galaxy S6 was powered by an Exynos7420 processor, which roughly matches that of the Snapdragon 810.

The amount of RAM also differs: the new item has 4 GB versus 3 GB of the Galaxy S6 model.

The flagship of 2016 initially runs on the latest version of Android Marshmallow at the time of the release of the device. Along with this, the new version of the mobile operating system is available to Galaxy S6 owners.

Samsung's proprietary custom skin, TouchWiz, has barely undergone any changes compared to the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge +.

Price

And here, the Galaxy S6 has a clear advantage. This smartphone is already quite possible to find within 30,000 thousand rubles, when, as a novelty in 2016, it will cost an average of 40,000 rubles, and in the case of the Galaxy S7 Edge, you will have to pay about 50,000 rubles.

Thus, in our opinion, it is not worth rushing to run and change the Galaxy S6 to a brand new flagship. And the strongest difference between one and the other in the emerging memory card slot and moisture protection. If these indicators are not very critical for you, you can safely take the Galaxy S6 - its power is still quite enough for all tasks, and the money saved when buying will not be superfluous. Or choose something else - the 7th "Galaxy" with other gadgets.

P.S. Like it if you think it's too early to write off the "old man S6"! Or write in the comments why you think differently!
