  • Herring – 380 g;
  • Potatoes – 190 g;
  • Carrots – 180 g;
  • Onion – 130 g;
  • Beetroot – 210 g;
  • Mayonnaise – 70 ml;
  • Water 220 ml;
  • Salt – 7 g;
  • Gelatin – 30 g;
  • Sugar – 15 g;
  • Apple vinegar – 25 ml.

Jellied herring under a fur coat:

  1. Wash the root vegetables, boil and peel. Then grate into different plates.
  2. The herring must be peeled from skin and bones, and the resulting fillet cut into small pieces.
  3. Peel the onion, chop it very finely, marinate in the prepared marinade. For the marinade, mix a little sugar and apple cider vinegar in boiled water. Leave to marinate for half an hour. Then drain the unnecessary liquid.
  4. It will take time to prepare the gelatin. First, you need to fill it with cool water so that the product swells a little. After this happens, heat the mixture on the stove, remembering to stir constantly. Do not bring to a boil, as then the dish will not set. After heating, the grains should dissolve in water. Then you should mix a little mayonnaise with the resulting liquid to color the water, add salt.
  5. Pour the resulting mixture over the products that were prepared in advance and placed in separate bowls. There is no need to wait for them to harden; after seasoning, you need to put all the ingredients one by one into a greased mold.
  6. Order of layers: potatoes, carrots, herring, onions, beets.
  7. Place in the refrigerator for a couple of hours.

TIP: For cooking you need an elastic and dense herring. If you are caught with softened fibers, this can be corrected. You need to dilute a strong tea solution and pour it over the fillet for a while.

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • Mayonnaise – 130 g;
  • 4 chicken eggs;
  • Dill – 45 g;
  • Salad onion – 110 g;
  • Potatoes – 210 g;
  • Carrots – 190 g;
  • Beetroot – 240 g;
  • Salted herring – 380 g;
  • Gelatin - 35 g;
  • Salt – 6 g.

Herring under a fur coat roll with gelatin:

  1. Soak gelatin in water at normal temperature. After it swells, you need to heat it a little so that the grains dissolve. But do not bring to a boil, because the jelly properties will immediately deteriorate. When everything is prepared, add the liquid to the mayonnaise, mix well, but make sure that the sauce does not turn out too liquid. This dressing must be used to lubricate all layers of the roll.
  2. Wash and cook the root vegetables, cool, peel, and grate.
  3. Boil chicken eggs hard, then add cold water to make cleaning easier. Separate the shell, grind the white and yolk separately.

  8. Spread cling film and place layers of salad on it, which should gradually decrease in width.
  9. First of all, lay out the beets; their shell should be the widest. Place carrots on it, then potatoes, followed by dill, egg and onion.
  10. Place strips of fish in the center, carefully wrap the ends of the film into an even roll, and leave to harden in this position.

Once I saw a very beautiful photo of a herring under a fur coat on the Internet and was surprised to read that it was a salad cake. I liked this very unusual salad recipe. Of course, I took note, and so I decided to try what would come of it.

There are almost no differences in ingredients here with the exception of gelatin, but to make the salad cake beautiful, you need a silicone mold with a pattern or in the form of some kind of figure.

Ingredients: 1 lightly salted herring, 2 beets, 3 potatoes, 3 carrots, 3 eggs, 0.5 onions, 4 sheets of gelatin, 100 ml water, 2 tsp. jelly or red currant syrup, 350-400 g of mayonnaise. The amount of vegetables may vary depending on their size.

Peeled vegetables and eggs need to be cooked in advance and cooled thoroughly; I usually cool them additionally in the refrigerator.

The main thing is the herring; the most time is spent on it, because it needs to be cleaned, all the bones taken out, and then finely cut into cubes.

Peel the potatoes and, like the herring, cut them into very small cubes. If the potatoes are well cooled in the refrigerator, then even starchy varieties can be cut normally without sticking together.

A lot depends on the beets in this dish; they should be sweet and rich in color. Three beets on a coarse grater.

The carrots can be grated or finely chopped - it doesn’t matter.

Finely chop the onion and pour boiling water over it for three minutes.
