How to cook rice with spinach

The recipe for this dish is very simple to follow. To cook rice with spinach, you need a minimum of ingredients, and the taste is simply amazing, tender and creamy.

Step-by-step preparation of the dish is as follows:

  1. Long rice (150 g) of any type is thoroughly washed in cold water. During the washing process, the water must be changed as often as possible, up to 8 times. This is done in order to wash out the maximum amount of starch from the rice, then during cooking it will not stick together and will turn out crumbly.
  2. The washed rice is placed in a pan, the bottom and walls of which are covered with foil. This is done so that the cereal does not burn during cooking. Rice is filled with water (250 ml), salt is added (½ teaspoon). The cooking time for the cereal is 15 minutes over low heat, after which it should still stand for 10 minutes under a closed lid.
  3. Spinach (100 g) is washed under running water, dried on a towel, and then finely chopped.
  4. The onion is finely chopped or chopped in a food processor.
  5. In a mixture of vegetable and butter (30 g), first fry the onion until soft, then the spinach. The preparation time for this dressing should not exceed 5 minutes. Additionally, another 30 g of butter is added.
  6. The finished and slightly cooled rice is transferred to a clean pan and mixed with spinach.
  7. Use the rice and spinach to place on a plate. The finished dish can be served to the table.

Creamed Spinach Rice Recipe

You can prepare very tasty rice using the following recipe. It is prepared in the oven, which means it retains maximum nutrients during heat treatment.

Creamed spinach rice is prepared as follows:

  1. Onions (2 pieces) are fried in butter (4 tablespoons) with the addition of salt, pepper and thyme (1 tablespoon).
  2. In a separate pan, boil 200 g of rice in a large amount of water. After 5 minutes from the moment of boiling, it is leaned back in a colander to drain excess liquid.
  3. The oven is heated to 175 degrees.
  4. Cereals mixed with onion dressing are placed in a pot or baking dish.
  5. The top of the mold is covered with foil and closed with a lid. Cooking time for rice is 30 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, blanch 4 cups of chopped spinach by first immersing it in hot and then cold water. Then combine it with cream (50 ml) and pour the resulting sauce over the finished rice. Lastly, mix everything well and serve.

Basmati rice with spinach and feta in Greek style

In Greece, every housewife knows how to cook a dish called “spanakorizo”. Rice with spinach and cheese really turns out very tasty and satisfying. You should safely cook it for dinner and you can be sure that your loved ones will be pleased with it.

Rice with spinach in a slow cooker

A crumbly, tasty and aromatic basmati side dish can be prepared in a slow cooker. And if you add spinach to it, the dish will also turn out to be very healthy.

To prepare the side dish, first fry finely chopped onion and a clove of garlic in a multicooker bowl in vegetable oil. The “Frying” mode for sautéing vegetables is selected. When the onion acquires a beautiful color, turmeric (½ teaspoon) and spinach (100 g) are added to it, which is also fried for two minutes. Then water (750 ml) is poured into the bowl and washed and dried (250 g) is added. Salt is added to taste (about 1-1½ teaspoons).

Rice with spinach is cooked in a multicooker in the "Cereal" mode for 25 minutes. Butter is added to the finished dish, after which it is mixed and placed on plates.

Thoroughly wash and dry the leek stem. Chop it finely. Heat vegetable oil in a thick-walled saucepan. Fry the leek until soft; it should not brown so as not to spoil the taste and color of the finished dish. Meanwhile, bring the broth to a boil and turn it off, we will need it hot.


Add the rice to the onion, stir and cook for a few minutes so that the rice absorbs some of the oil.


Pour in the hot broth and stir. You can use chicken or vegetable broth, but if there is none at all, you can simply add hot water, stirring in it, for example, a little spice for rice or soup (1/4 tsp).

Salt and pepper. Let's close the lid. Let's cook over low heat until all the liquid is absorbed.


Meanwhile, remove the zest from the lemon, preferably using a fine grater. We thoroughly wash the spinach and, together with peeled garlic and one teaspoon of vegetable oil, beat it in a blender until a green puree is obtained. To make it easier to achieve the desired consistency, add two to three tablespoons of water. Add zest and a little salt.


We transfer our “green” mass into rice. Add green peas, stir and cook for another 5 minutes. If using frozen peas, run warm water over them to warm them up. Taste for spices and salt and adjust the taste of the dish if necessary. This rice holds its shape perfectly, so it can be laid out beautifully on a plate using a serving ring or simply served on a platter.

This dish can easily be turned into “green pilaf” by simply adding meat or poultry to it. For example, for chicken pilaf, fry pieces of chicken meat, add leeks, and then rice, cook according to the basic recipe. The chicken meat will have time to cook along with the rice and become soft.

For pilaf with meat, I would recommend frying the meat and simmering it lightly to soften it, and only then add the rest of the ingredients. But it also happens that a piece of cooked meat, boiled or baked chicken breast or thigh remains in the refrigerator. They can also be used by adding chopped ones at the very end - along with peas and spinach. You need to let the dish cook for another 5 minutes.

So, let's begin. We will need a large bunch of fresh spinach, a glass of rice (any rice available in the kitchen), one large onion, vegetable and butter, salt and black pepper to taste.
