Trails of La Thuile

The United Ski Area of San Bernardo offers 150 km of prepared pistes of varying difficulty: 15 black, 32 red, 25 blue, 8 green, located at an altitude of 1200-2650 m above sea level. The tracks are equipped with 38 lifts.

In La Thuile, professionals will be able to try their hand at the "black" tracks laid through the forest from the top of Les Suches (Les Suches, 2200 m) to the villages of Diretta and Tre (Tre).

Intermediate skiers will like the area above Petit Saint Bernard (2188 m) - there are real “red” slopes. The slopes in the upper part of the "Italian" ski area are very comfortable, they are well suited for parents with children. Very gentle slopes, on which absolutely all skiers will feel confident, are located in the central part of the slopes of the resort, above Le Suchet. The only problem is that they are located in the middle of the ski area, and in order to get down to the city, you need to drive along red or black slopes. Therefore, it is better to use the lift on the way back.

For lovers of cross-country skiing, there are numerous trails through the coniferous forests surrounding the resort. Heli-skiing is also well developed, the most interesting route 20 km long goes to the Ruitor glacier, and then to La Rosiere.

The cost of a one-day ski pass to the combined ski area in high season is 44/32 EUR per adult/child.

For lovers of cross-country skiing, there are numerous trails through the coniferous forests surrounding the resort. Circuits of varying lengths and difficulty levels are located in Arly, just behind the Foyer de Fond. The most difficult ring is 7.7 km, of medium difficulty there are two tracks - 5 km and 3.5 km, and the simplest ring track is only 1 km long.

Rink
An outdoor artificial ice rink with an area of almost 300 m2 (26 X 11 m) is located in Faubourg and can accommodate up to 60 people. Here you can take part in mini-cockey tournaments, rent all the necessary equipment or sharpen your own skates.

The ski school in La Thuile has been in existence for over 50 years and is located opposite the ski lift in Les Suches at an altitude of 2200 m. The school employs more than 80 instructors, including world-class athletes, federal trainers specializing in various disciplines, as well as professional guides for off-piste skiing in hazardous areas. The school offers individual and group lessons for adults and children in all disciplines.

The sports complex is located in the Planibel Hotel and offers 2 swimming pools for adults and one for children and a fitness center with a gym, sauna and Turkish bath.

Verres Castle was built on a rocky peak overlooking the adjacent village and was first mentioned in 1287 as belonging to the De Verretio family.
The inscription in the Gothic style indicates that it was thanks to Ibleto Shallant in 1390 that the castle acquired its current appearance. Subsequently, the castle was replenished with various defensive structures, thus acquiring the significance of a military fortress, which was under the influence of the Shallant family until the beginning of the 19th century.
Further, the tour route leads to Isson Castle, which also owes its current appearance to the representatives of the Schallant family, who turned it into a magnificent residence of the Renaissance. Magnificent frescoes, medieval graffiti, mute witnesses of the past that adorn the walls of this extraordinary castle, its interior decoration and architecture allow you to plunge into the historical events of the Middle Ages, thus getting acquainted with part of the history of the Valle d'Aosta region.
The final part of the tour is a visit to the Bertholin House Sausage Factory, where you will get acquainted with the old production recipes and taste the Valdostan meat delicacies, which are world famous.

During the tour you will visit the castle of Sarrio de la Tour, one of the original medieval castles in the Aosta Valley, whose history of origin remains unclear and whose construction dates back to the period of the 10th-12th centuries. Over the centuries, the architecture of the castle has changed according to the wishes and whims of different generations of the Sarrio de La Tour family, turning the castle into a mysterious labyrinth of stairs, towers, halls, cellars and outbuildings.
