The holiday comes to us, there are only a few days left before the New Year, which means that it is time to arm yourself with a camera and go for a walk around Moscow. Over the past few years, the New Year's capital has been dressing up for the holiday in full, its streets and parks are lit up with millions of lights, and in addition to the traditional glowing tunnels, ice slides, fairground chalets and giant glowing balls, the organizers responsible for the New Year's mood of Muscovites and city guests are preparing something something new.

Journey to Christmas: Route with Site Map

For the coming 2018, festive Moscow is once again giving everyone a bright holiday festival "Journey to Christmas". This season, the New Year's venues will be united by the theme of the theater, the announced program promises a lot of surprises that can infect with a festive mood even in such an autumn-rainy weather as this year. Officially "Journey to Christmas" starts on December 22 and will last until January 14, but now you can already see many beautiful installations and Christmas trees.

Here is a map with a route through New Year's Moscow, or rather, through the most popular sites.

From Tverskaya to Pushkinskaya

You can start a walk in New Year's Moscow from Tverskoy Boulevard, at the beginning of which this year they installed a light tunnel that is loved by many.

The novelty of the season on Tverskoy Boulevard will be the Winter Games Alley, from snowboarding lessons to snowball fights. And for relaxation and recuperation, a chalet with dishes from different nations of the world will be installed here ... I already feel the aroma of manti and pilaf, chestnuts and gingerbread.

On the other side of the street, on the site of the demolished Pyramid, a Christmas tree with a decorative mask rises. We jokingly interpreted this installation as: "Enjoy the New Year and be sad about the old passing away."

We decided not to stay here for a long time, because we wanted to find something new, so we went along Tverskaya Street to the City Hall, which is located opposite Tverskaya Square.

In my opinion, Tverskaya Street has been decorated in style, lamps in the form of champagne glasses will look especially great when the street becomes pedestrianized. This will happen from December 31 to January 2, on New Year's Eve until 3-00 guests will be entertained here.

The theatrical theme of the festival is supported by giant light arches, the brightest of which can be found on Tverskaya Square.

This site prepares a lot of fabulous entertainment, including theatrical performances from international groups, a glass theater with the opportunity to take a master class from glassmakers. Stylish glass chalets open this Friday. You can treat yourself to hot drinks and sweets or look for an original souvenir.

If you have not sent a letter to Santa Claus, then this can be done on Tverskaya Square. By the way, it will be possible to write to any dear person - an original gift, or rather attention.

Pushkinskaya Square and Novopushkinskiy Boulevard are another bright platform in the center of Moscow as part of the Travel to Christmas festival. A light arch, trees sparkling with LEDs are a win-win option in pursuit of beautiful New Year's photos.

Christmas market in front of GUM

By the way, about fairs. If you want to plunge into the atmosphere of "candy bars" or, for example, walk a bright Pavlovsky shawl, then go to Red Square, where my favorite Christmas fair is open every year, as well as a wonderful ice rink.

Carousel, music, dances and a sea of wooden houses with goods of various folk crafts, sweet rolls, tea and other food - all this is a fair near GUM. It seems to me that once upon a time, when bears were still walking along Tverskaya, our ancestors had such fun.

You can warm up and relax in GUM, which every year features an original Christmas tree and a thematic exhibition.

In the 2017-2018 season, the main Moscow store has prepared a nostalgic exhibition about the Soviet New Year. You will see Christmas tree decorations from the 70s and 80s, lovely to the heart, handmade dolls, Ded Morozov from the past, which stood under the tree in almost every home.

Family New Year, for which we have been preparing for several months. And even creepy plastic masks here look touching and you just want to try on the image of a bunny and a chanterelle from childhood, tell a rhyme and receive a gift.

Many families threw away the Soviet New Year's paraphernalia, but here, in modern GUM, they understand that they have done something stupid ... Therefore, come to GUM to feel a little sad, to admire such familiar and forgotten things.

Magic Christmas tree forest on Manezhnaya Square

We go to Manezhnaya Square and find ourselves in a maze of fir trees, pines of all calibers, of which there are hundreds. This Magic Forest was created by the organizers in the city center! The feature of this site will be an immersive theater and a fairy tale "12 Months" and all this is free.

In my rating of Moscow jewelry - the Magic Forest took first place. This is a novelty in the appearance of New Year's Moscow: through the illuminated arch you can see the Kremlin and the Historical Museum. Further, we find ourselves in a maze of Christmas trees, decorated with balls and theatrical masks. Here and there, organically inscribed tents appear, in which they will offer something tasty, as well as showcases with flowers and other compositions.

With each step, the panorama of the Kremlin changes, while it becomes unusual, unusual. Well, in our time there were no forests under the walls of the Kremlin! I can imagine how wonderful it will be here when the forest "comes to life".

The ice slide, the largest in the city, will traditionally be installed between Manezhnaya and Revolution Square. It will be free to ride and rent cheesecakes, and additional slopes will help reduce queues.

Nikolskaya and Lubyanskaya

Nikolskaya Street was especially brightly dressed, so feel free to include it in your route around New Year's Moscow.

An impromptu starfall creates a magical atmosphere. There are so many shooting stars here that I bet you don't have enough desires to make plans for each of them.

Another novelty of the season is a magnificent light tunnel with improvised chandeliers opposite the Political Museum (New Square in Kitay-Gorod area). It is convenient to come here after walking along Nikolskaya Street, if you leave it in the opposite direction from the Kremlin.

New arch opposite the Bolshoi Theater

The mask supports the theatrical theme. If you look closely, there are many masks of different sizes and designs on each site.

Designer Christmas trees will appear on Kuznetsky Most again. Leading Russian designers will once again dress Christmas trees in an outfit that goes beyond candy and balloons, while supporting the main theme of the festival - theater and fairy tales.

New festive venues will appear on the Garden Ring: on Lermontovskaya Square, on Zatsepsky Val, Smolenskaya Square and Zemlyanoy Val. The theme of the theater will be dominant, and here, in addition to performances, the organizers promise magnificent photo zones, for example, in the area of Smolenskaya Square there will be a fireplace and a Viennese waltz.

Moomin trolls, to whom many are not indifferent, will settle during the New Year and Christmas celebrations at 13 Novy Arbat. Fairy-tale characters will act out scenes, take pictures with passers-by. Something tells me that it is not the children who will lead their parents to this site, but everything will be exactly the opposite.

Theatrical facades in the form of intricate arches can be found at the following addresses: Tverskaya Square, Bolshoi Theater, Gazetny and Kamergersky Lanes, Pushkinskaya Square and Novopushkinsky Square, so when visiting the most popular Travel sites on Christmas, you will not miss the prepared beauty.

VDNKh, Sokolniki and Gorky Park are my three favorite parks, in which excellent skating rinks work in winter, and decorate them from the heart.

Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora is preparing an exhibition of ice figures, but not some fictional houses for the princess, but reduced copies of world sights. Big Ben, the statue of Christ, the Eiffel Tower and other recognizable symbols of world capitals will be built of ice in honor of the countries participating in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Russia.

Outside the center, there will also be many festive areas, Christmas trees and fairs, but you won't have enough time and energy to go around them all. So, welcome to the official Christmas Travel website for schedules, site opening hours and more information. I am very glad that I have already seen all this beauty. Eh, still a beautiful fresh snow would fall, but it's still ahead, because the holiday is coming to us.

On the Red Square. At least once in their lives, every Muscovite or Muscovite here said goodbye to the old year and, together with the whole country, opened their hearts to a new one.

Red Square is an ideal place where you can have a good time without spending almost a penny on your leisure time, not counting, of course, hot coffee, sweet buns and other Russian dishes that the invited chefs will delight in. For a multi-million crowd, Russian pop stars perform every year. The best ending to the holiday that you can imagine is to meet face to face with your idol.

In addition, amusing contests, dances, folk songs and, of course, an incredibly beautiful New Year tree will await Muscovites and guests of the capital on Red Square. Anyone can go ice skating and win some prizes if they are active enough in the lotteries of local ringleaders.

The party here will continue all night. The festive fireworks will become the king of the evening - the brightest and reddest spectacle that Russians can only contemplate.

How will Poklonnaya Gora please?

They promise to do something incredible in Victory Park - a model of the capital made of ice will appear here. The authors will be the participants of the In the Family Circle festival. Eminent craftsmen and craftswomen will make models of the most famous buildings in Moscow. The maximum height of future buildings is five meters. It is planned to place a stand with information and special lighting near each building. Thanks to this, viewers will be able to learn a lot about the buildings they are used to, which they have to pass by day after day.

Also, visitors to the Victory Park will find an incredible fire show and a dance battle. Such a New Year's Moscow 2017, where you can take a walk with friends and loved ones, will certainly appeal to those who cannot imagine their life without movement.

Festivities at VDNKh

Guests of the capital who have come to see New Year's Moscow from afar should definitely visit VDNKh. As in many places, there is a large open-air ice rink. Those who have already skated a lot are invited to visit various exhibitions and museums that operate on all holidays.

Tsaritsyno

Tsaritsyno is the main Moscow New Year's paradise for children. From the twenty-fourth of December, the New Year's performances, which have already become traditional for the young residents of the capital, will start here every year. The performances are designed for the age category from five to twelve years old.

New Year's Eve 2017 in Moscow can be traditionally spent in the center of the capital on Red Square or attending a show in the capital's parks. The most interesting and spectacular events in our selection.

Red Square

December 31, 2016 - January 1, 2017, from 22:00

The largest and most beautiful Christmas tree in the country, the traditional New Year's fireworks in the center of Moscow, the chimes of the Spasskaya Tower, the atmosphere of fun and happiness - this is what New Year is on Red Square.

Victory Park on Poklonnaya Hill

In honor of the New Year, a small Moscow will grow out of ice in Victory Park.

Small cars will roll along the miniature highway, and boys and girls will try on the role of strict inspectors and make sure that no one violates traffic rules.

Every day at 15:00, 17:00 and 19:00, guests will be able to participate in old Russian games, see fire shows and musical and choreographic performances. Young guests will be offered, as in the good old days, to take a snow fortress.

A little further away, on Pokrovskaya Hill, will appeal to those who love solitude. This part of the Park is perfect for a romantic date or a family walk. A meeting can be made under the flickering lights of a spreading spruce, and when it gets dark, admire the fireworks.

Palace complex "Tsaritsyno"

December 31, 2016 - January 1, 2017

In addition to traditional children's programs with contests, surprises and gifts, young visitors will be involved in a quest play filled with old games. In the Grand Palace, children will be taught to dance and fence, and after going to the greenhouse complex, guests will find themselves at a flower exhibition in the middle of a hot summer.

Tagansky park

December 31, 2016 - January 1, 2017

Do you want to celebrate this New Year in the style of Harry Potter? Tagansky Park has prepared such an opportunity for its guests. On the night of December 31 to January 1, there will be a full immersion in the fairy world of J.K. Rowling. The park will be decorated in the style of the world of wizards, and the entertainment will be themed. Those who are confident in skating will be able to take part in a big battle on the broom rink.

Sokolniki Park"

December 31, 2016 - January 1, 2017

A global party in the style of the 90s is being held in Sokolniki the old year and the new one. The celebration will take place on Fontannaya Square, which will be decorated with an elegant Christmas tree and hundreds of lights. The program promises to be hot and rich, with dances, flash mobs, games and contests. The stars of the 90s will perform at the concert with old hits and variations on their theme.
